Data Protection

This statement explains what personal data is involved when you visit e-Resource Guide, why, and what you can do about it. We have kept the site deliberately simple, so the list is short.

The site in brief

e-Resource Guide is a static website. Pages are prepared in advance and delivered as plain files. There is no login, no comment section, no shop and no account of any kind, so we never ask you to create a profile or hand over details just to read.

  • We do not run analytics or visitor statistics tools.
  • We do not show advertising or work with advertising networks.
  • We do not use tracking pixels, fingerprinting or social media widgets.
  • We do not sell, rent or trade any information about readers.

Your cookie choice

On a first visit, a little box invites you to accept or turn down optional storage on this site. Your answer is saved in your browser's local storage so the notice does not appear on every page. That entry stays on your device, is never sent to us and contains no information that identifies you. Wiping the e-Resource Guide entry from your browser's site data removes it on the spot. More detail is on Your Cookie Choice.

Hosting and server logs

Like any website, ours is served by a hosting provider. When your browser requests a page, the provider's servers automatically record technical information such as your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the browser type and whether the request succeeded. The provider needs these records to serve pages, spot attacks and trace technical faults. They are kept for a limited period by the provider and are not combined with other data or used to profile readers. We rely on legitimate interest as the legal basis, since a site has to stay reachable and protected against misuse.

When you email us

If you write to the address on our contact page, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and whatever you choose to tell us. We use this only to read and answer your message, and to fix an article if you have pointed out a problem. We keep correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it and then delete it, unless it helps us track a correction. Please do not send account numbers, identity documents or health records.

Your rights

Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, you have the right to:

  • find out whether any of your personal data is held here, and get a copy of it;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • ask for erasure once we no longer have a good reason to hold your data;
  • limit our use of your data, or object to it;
  • take data you supplied with you in a common, machine-readable file;
  • complain to a data protection supervisory authority in the country where you live or work.

Exercising any of these rights takes a single email to the team. We may ask a question to confirm the request is genuinely yours, and we aim to answer within one month.

Links to other websites

Now and then an article points to a page on another website. Once you follow such a link, that site's own privacy terms apply, and we have no control over them.

Children

Our articles are aimed at grown-up readers. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this statement

If the way the site works changes, for example if we ever add a feature that processes more data, this page will be updated before the change takes effect.
